the story
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines "Courage" as the mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.
The mountain lion, also known as the cougar, puma, panther, or catamount, is a large cat native to the Americas. Their size varies by location, being smaller near the equator and larger toward the poles.
The mountain lion’s range spreads all across the Americas, from the Canadian Yukon to The Strait of Magellan, the greatest of range of any living mammal in the Americas.
A Tribute to Resilience
In the 1800s and early 1900s, mountain lions were feared for threatening livestock and were nearly wiped out in the eastern United States. Due to conservation efforts, populations in the western United States are now stable, though still much lower than historically.
Despite several thousand mountain lions remaining in the wild, their numbers have significantly declined due to overhunting, habitat loss, and conflicts with livestock.
Courage represents resilience, grace under pressure, and the will to thrive.
